DAS Qualification as a Teacher of German as a Second and Foreign Language (GSL/GFL)

This further training programme provides a sound grounding in teaching German as a second and foreign language. You will be equipped to teach German as a second and foreign language, and as a language of instruction, in both school and non-school settings, thereby enabling learners to experience language learning as both a means and an end for personal development and for expanding their career opportunities.

The certificate covers the core subject knowledge and skills that a teacher in integration courses must possess, and it qualifies you to teach German as a foreign language in schools abroad.

Course structure and dates

The certificate programme runs over two semesters and can be undertaken whilst working. The programme consists of six seminars, each comprising two to three days of face-to-face teaching and distance-learning elements. Three of these seminars form one module. The first module corresponds to the CAS ‘German as a Second and Foreign Language (DaZ/DaF) – Fundamentals’ and the second to the CAS ‘German as a Second and Foreign Language (DaZ/DaF) – Advanced’. Incidentally, you can also book both separately and combine them later to form the DAS.

Each module concludes with an assignment in which, based on the module content, a concept is developed for a teaching and learning setting in the relevant type of school or institution (Module 1) and for a teaching and learning setting within a BAMF integration course (Module 2). Upon successful completion of the continuing professional development certificate “Qualification as a Teacher of German as a Second and Foreign Language (DaZ/DaF)”, you will receive 30 credit points (CP).
