Department of Bilingual Teaching and Learning (CLIL)
Bilingual Teaching and Learning (BLL) refers to teaching methods in which subject-specific learning and foreign language learning are combined. Internationally, the term Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) has become established as an umbrella term for the many different ways in which this approach is implemented worldwide.
At our Institute for Bilingual Teaching and Learning (CLIL), we bring together the expertise of the Karlsruhe University of Education in the field of BLL/CLIL. Our work is characterised by cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional collaboration.
Teaching
The degree programmes for the European Teaching Qualification (EULA) are a distinctive feature of the teacher training colleges in Baden-Württemberg and can be studied (in different ways) in Karlsruhe, Freiburg and Ludwigsburg. At our university, these degree programmes complement the standard teacher training programmes for primary and secondary education by incorporating skills and content relating to bilingual teaching and learning (CLIL) and cultural diversity, as well as subject-specific language proficiency in the target language and a compulsory semester abroad.
